Guardian Angel: Childhood 01
The Church tells us that angels are pure spirit, created out of nothing. They can temporarily take on physical form, but only for sake of their mission, and not permanently. These forms have appeared as excessively beautiful people, as animals, and even utterly symbolic.
Angels bridge divinity and humanity. This isn't necessary for God, but by inviting His creatures to partake in His movements, He allows them to share his joy, active love and glory. It is like a parent who involves their child in something wonderful that they are doing. The word angel comes from the Greek word angelos, which means messenger. The Hebrew word for angels, malakh, also means messenger. Their wings symbolize their role as messengers.
The Guardian Angel we are following is receiving his mission, then bringing it ever to the foot of the Cross, waiting in continual adoration of Christ and prayer as time passes.
St. Thomas Aquinas said that when an angel is created, they are infused with all of the natural knowledge they will need to perform their mission. They don't learn by experience, as we do. Instead, they are already filled.
There is at least one Guardian Angel for each person who ever lived, because angels don't recycle. St. Thomas taught that Guardian Angels are assigned at birth. St. Jerome and St. Basil believed that they are assigned at Baptism, while St. Anselm asserted that they are assigned at conception. Whatever the case, your Guardian Angel, created at the beginning of time, has waited until THIS time for you. God fills their hearts with supernatural, perfect created love for you.
Since there is at least one Guardian Angel for every person who has ever or will ever live, we can also safely assume that there are a lot of them! And that is only one choir of angels!
