In his lifetime, he was a stretcher bearer, Pope, cardinal, farmer, and papal ambassador who helped save 24,000 Jews. Originally named Angelo, "Good Pope John" is well loved and well known for his quick wit and humor. It is not difficult to find funny quotes from him. He was a man of great faith and great humility, often poking fun at himself. He opened the Second Vatican Council.
