St. Genevieve
On The Grapevine 14
Sorry for the delay on this one - tomorrow is my birthday, and today was busier than usual.
St. Genevieve was about 30 when Attila the Hun began his path towards Paris. Genevieve rallied the people to prayer and fasting, and Attila took a sudden diversion.
About 40 years later, Clovis led his army of Franks to conquer Gaul. He, too, wanted Paris. But Genevieve swore that a pagan would not rule her city any more than a barabarian did. She again rallied the people, and they would not let him within the walls. His only hope was to lay siege.
Genevieve, almost 70 years old, traveled to a neighboring city and brought back 12 ships worth of supplies for the Parisians, absentmindedly working healing miracles as she went. Clovis gave up his siege, but Genevieve added him to her prayer list. Clovis married Clotilde, a Christian, who played a large role in his conversion to Christianity in 497 AD. Once he was properly baptized, Genevieve welcomed Clovis, now king of Gaul, into Paris. She became Clotilde's close friend and advisor, and Clotilde also eventually became a saint.
Genevieve consecrated herself to Jesus from a very young age. She was known for her generosity in feeding the poor, as well as inspiring and leading many other young virgins who chose to live a life consecrated to God. She was also pretty spunky. You can read more about her HERE.
