Guardian Angel II 01
When I started working on the second half of this webcomic, I was thinking about doing it in a different medium from the first half. I ultimately returned to watercolor, but this page is sketched in pencil.
Our girl is in college. You might remember that she had a bit of a tendency towards vanity. . . it has gotten worse. She is overly concerned about her appearance. She has become more concerned with herself and her appearance to others than with God and her appearance to Him. She takes the time she should be using in prayer to let God prepare her heart inwardly to receive him in the Eucharist, and instead spends it on preparing herself outwardly for the sight of other people. Although she doesn't realize it, she is quite actively creating and reinforcing disorder in her priorities, using the time that should be used to recenter herself to instead move herself further and more solidly into dysfunction.
Her Guardian Angel knows, and (with one hand on his hip) he tries to draw her attention to the passing time. Instead, our girl makes herself late for Mass.
You may remember that our Guardian Angels are specially charged from the beginning of time with guarding us as temples of the Holy Spirit. They are our superhuman warriors - but only inasmuch as we will allow them to help us. If I had been assigned to and waited for that task, it would be especially frustrating to have to stand there and watch my special, one and only charge, as a temple of the Holy Spirit, actively hurt herself and her relationship with God. I would be so eager to become involved and so frustrated not to be able to. I am amazed some days that my own Guardian Angel has enough patience and control not to give me a good shake every now and then.
She is made late because of her vanity and her attachment to the world and how people perceive her. This is an indication that her priorities have become disordered.
