Guardian Angel: Part 2 TITLE PAGE
August Queen of Heaven, sovereign Mistress of the Angels,
who didst receive from the beginning the mission and the power to crush the serpent’s head,
we beseech thee to send thy holy angels, that under thy command and by thy power,
they may pursue the evil spirits,
encounter them on every side,
resist their bold attacks,
and drive them hence into the abyss of woe.
-Prayer to Our Lady, Queen of the Angels given to a Bernadine sister
This is the title page for the second half of the Guardian Angel webcomic. If you haven't read it yet, you can find the first half of the story in our archives or by clicking HERE. Our angel webcomics contain a lot of theology, and the second half builds on the first, so I do encourage you to read through the first half even if you have already read through it - if only to brush up before we begin the second half. Or at least click through the pictures, as we will be building on the life of the same girl and her Guardian Angel.
We're using the angel webcomics to introduce the 9 choirs of angels in varying depths. The Guardian Angels primarily belong to the 9th and lowest choir of angels (the Angels) and we decided to choose a Guardian Angel to represent the lowest choir. Of all nine choirs, the Angels most commonly directly communicate with humanity.
As with the first half, you should be able to follow a simple story just from looking through the pictures. But down here, I will also open up a little more of the theology behind what is shown in the picture.
This is just the Title Page for the second half of this story, featuring my depiction of a Guardian Angel. Remember that angels are pure spirit and do not have bodies (but can temporarily take on physical form). Depictions of angels are almost always symbolic, and so it becomes very interesting to study them in artwork and consider what the artist is trying to represent. In this Title Page, he is kneeling in prayer. Mary, crowned Queen of heaven, is also the Queen of the Angels (all 9 choirs). I circled the praying Guardian Angel with a rosary both to honor her and because of its relevance to the rest of the story. Tradition has it that every rosary we say adds another rose to Mary's heavenly crown.
