St. Gemma Galgani
On The Grapevine 64
I thought this one would be appropriate for today, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. St. Gemma (1878 - 1903) was a quiet, gentle and sweet young lady whose heart burned with love for Jesus. After the death of her parents, she raised her 7 brothers and sisters. She wanted to become a nun, but her poor health and chronic illness prevented it. She offered this up as a sacrifice, and lived her own hidden life of quiet prayer. She experienced ecstasies and received the stigmata. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 25 with a smile on her lips.
St. Gemma's autobiography, diary, letters and recorded ecstasies (as well as other information about her) can be found HERE, and our other St. Gemma comic can be found HERE.

"Oh love of my Jesus! ....Let Your love penetrate my all; from You I want nothing else.
My God, my God, I love You. But, perhaps I love You too little, oh Jesus?....
Oh, if all were to know how beautiful Jesus is, how loving He is! They would all die of love.
And yet, how is it that He is so little loved?" - St. Gemma Galgani
"God, Who made the sun, also made the moon. The moon does not take away from the brilliance of the sun. The moon would be only a burnt-out cinder floating in the immensity of space were it not for the sun. All its light is reflected from the sun. The Blessed Mother reflects her Divine Son; without Him, she is nothing. With Him, she is the Mother of Men. On dark nights we are grateful for the moon; when we see it shining, we know there must be a sun. So in this dark night of the world when men turn their backs on Him Who is the Light of the World, we look to Mary to guide their feet while we await the sunrise. " - Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
