Guardian Angel: Childhood TITLE PAGE
Heavenly Father, You who are the Creator of all things visible and invisible,
we ask you to send the Holy Spirit,
with His gifts of Wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
that we may have a greater knowledge, and therefore a greater love,
of these beautiful spiritual beings we call angels,
and that we may tap their power of intercession for the Church and for the world today.
We ask this grace in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, and through the intercession of our Lady, Queen of the Angels.
Hail Mary. . . Our Lady, Queen of the Angels. . .
- Dr. Mark Miravalle
"Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life." - St.Basil
Angels are mysterious and sublime beings that "surpass in perfection all visible creatures" - (Catechism of the Catholic Church). In the angel webcomics, I'm going to try to depict the choirs of angels in their various roles. The result won't do justice to these beings, who are so far beyond us, but it will be well researched and should help give a basic understanding, eventually, of all nine choirs of angels. St. Bonaventure said that a lack of familiarity with the 9 choirs of angels is an ignorance that no educated Catholic should have.
The angel webcomics will introduce the angels in varying depths. This is the beginning of a very simple one - the role of a Guardian Angel for a child. The Guardian Angels will be explained in 2 parts. They get a little more attention because they most commonly directly communicate with humanity.
You should be able to follow a simple story just from looking through the pictures, but down here, I will also open up a little more of the theology behind what is shown in the picture.
This is just the Title Page for this story, featuring my depiction of a Guardian Angel. The 9th and lowest choir of angels is the Angels. Most Guardian Angels come from this choir, although not all of the 9th choir are Guardian Angels, and not all Guardian Angels are from the 9th choir. For example, tradition has it that St. Gabriel the Archangel was Mary's Guardian Angel. The 9 choirs of angels are split up into 3 Hierarchies. . . Angels being the last choir in the last hierarchy. All choirs of angels are, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, wholly servants and messengers of God. Thomas Aquinas said that each angel is an entire species (!) of its own, and that there are a lot of them.
