St. Honoratus of Amiens
On the Grapevine 28
When St. Honoratus' childhood nursemaid was told (as she was baking bread) that he had been made a bishop of Amiens, France, she refused to believe it. She said, "I will believe that when this bread board sprouts roots and grows into a tree." The board sprouted roots and began to grow into a mulberry tree. Although St. Honoratus died in 600 AD, people reportedly still traveled to see the still-living tree in the 16th century, and St. Honoratus became the patron saint of bakers. The St. Honore cake was named after him, and is the traditional cake used to celebrate someone's Confirmation in France.
He was a humble man marked by great charity and love of our Crucified Lord. He was also known for fasting and other pious works. Many miracles were reported with his relics and when his body was exhumed in 1060.
