On The Grapevine 60
This Grapevine is just for fun. :) Today is the feastday of St. Benedict of Nursia, the founder of Western Monasticism. He called his rule for monastic life "The Little Rule." The Rule of St. Benedict describes the ordering of a monastic community of little, humble sons (monks) under a father (Abbot). The monks are encouraged to "Ora et Labora" - "Pray and Work!"
Thursday is the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Perhaps the most well-known Carmelite is St. Therese of Lisieux, who was named a Doctor of the Church for her "Little Way," a path to holiness described as making oneself littler and humbler all the time, and doing every little thing with the greatest of love as an offering to God. So today's Grapevine honors these two great, little saints, who both prescribe a way of life that relies on grace and surrender instead of greatness and superiority.

Prayer for Humility
Lord Jesus, when You walked the earth,
Your humility obscured Your Kingship.
Your meekness confused the arrogant,
Hindering them from grasping Your purpose,
Your nobleness attending to the destitutes.
Teach me to model after Your eminence,
To subject my human nature to humility.
Grant me a with a natural inclination
To never view myself greater than anyone.
Banish all lingering sparks of self-importance
That could elevate me greater than You.
Let my heart always imitate Your humility!
