St. Ignatius of Loyola
On The Grapevine 47
Still experiencing glitches with DeviantArt Muro. . . I'm really not knowledgeable about these art programs. So it's another black and white Grapevine today. . . Hopefully I can figure this out by next week.
St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, was denounced to the Spanish Inquisition on 8 different occasions after his conversion. Among other things, he was accused of teaching novelties - to which he responded, "My Lord, I would not have thought it had been any novelty to speak of Christ to Christians!"
St. Ignatius of Loyola was a soldier in the Spanish army who was passionate about winning personal glory. While he was defending a Spanish fortress town with a handful of other soldiers from a very large French army, a cannonball shattered his leg. When the bone wasn't set properly, he had the leg rebroken, reset, and the protruding bone cut off without anesthetic - so it would not look ugly. While he recovered, he asked for reading material and was given a book of the lives of the saints. This sparked his conversion. He decided to dedicate himself, in all his passion and fervor, to being a soldier of the Catholic faith. He eventually wrote the famous "Spiritual Exercises," attracted followers, and founded the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits. Our current Pope, Pope Francis, is a Jesuit. St. Ignatius died at the age of 65.

Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked foe, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me
and bid me come to you
That with your saints I may praise you
For ever and ever. Amen.
