St. Augustine of Hippo
On The Grapevine 44
St. Augustine returns!!!
St. Augustine of Hippo was very intellectual. Although he was raised as a Christian, in pride and impurity he rebelled and turned away from the Church. However, his mother, St. Monica, never gave up on him - and through her constant prayers and supplications, she practically prayed him back into the Church. St. Augustine became a priest, then a bishop. He was a great writer and a Doctor of the early Church, and he eventually founded a religious order. He helped formulate the doctrine of original sin. He became a very devout and charitable man, and died in 430 AD. You can read more about him HERE, and see our other St. Augustine comic HERE.

P.S. I am headed to the Monastery of the Little Flower of Jesus in Buffalo, NY to discern with the Discalced Carmelites from Feb 13 to Feb 20th! YAY!
But that means no On The Grapevine on Saturday the 14th (St. Valentine's day!) and no Guardian Angel II comic on Wednesday the 18th (Ash Wednesday). I will try to pick up again on the following Saturday (Feb 21). Keep me in your prayers during this time - I have been looking forward to making this trip for a long time, and suddenly everything came together yesterday. God is so good! Also, if you pray for me, say a prayer for our priests. :)

St. Augustine's Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit,
that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit,
to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit,
that I always may be holy.
Amen.
that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit,
that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit,
to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit,
that I always may be holy.
Amen.
