Guardian Angel II 19
Sometimes it helps to imagine our souls as gardens. So we nourish and water the good seeds God has planted - our desire for God, the virtues, self-giving love, etc. The fertile soil of our souls is a rich prayer life and a deep humility - without these, nothing can grow, not even love. But we also must be on guard against the weeds in our spiritual life. These include obvious sinful habits - lying, stealing, gossiping, lust, etc - but can also things that don't seem to cause any harm to anyone. Our souls are made for God. Whenever we have the option to choose between Him and something else, and we choose something else, we foster those weeds in our gardens. When we foster things in ourselves that are not God centered, we drain our souls, and steal nutrients, energy, and time from the soil that was made to foster the good. So it has the effect of retarding our spiritual growth. We fail to develop properly. In addition, these things continue to pull us away from God. "Be hostile to admitting into your soul things that of themselves have no spiritual substance, lest they make you lose your liking for devotion and recollection." - St. John of the Cross.
If we are the keepers of our souls, and our Guardian Angels are given to us to serve us, we should put them to work. Tell your Guardian Angel your weaknesses. Tell them when you're tempted. Tell them when you want to foster some good, or guard against some bad. They are so pleased to help.
-Meg
True to form, she's putting things off until she HAS to do them.
