St. Patrick of Ireland
On The Grapevine 48
Watercolored this time. :)
Since St. Patrick's day is coming up, I did a St. Patrick comic for this week. According to legend, when St. Patrick came back to Ireland to preach about Christ, there was one particular Druid High Chieftain, Dichu, who was absolutely set against him. Dichu came running at him, sword drawn, to kill him. St. Patrick said a quick prayer, and Dichu's arm became frozen in place. St. Patrick took the opportunity to preach Christ to the Druid Chieftain, who was stuck listening and could not lower his arm until he became friendly to him. Dichu later gave St. Patrick the gift of a large barn which became his first Church in Sabhall, County Down in Ulster.
Patrick traveled in poverty all over Ireland teaching the Catholic faith, converting clan chiefs, and opening churches, schools and monasteries. He used the three leaves of clovers to explain the Trinity to the Irish people. Because the symbol of the pagans and druids in Ireland was the serpent, he is said to have "driven the snakes out of Ireland."
You can read more about him HERE, and read our other St. Patrick webcomic HERE.

St. Patrick's Breastplate
Christ be with me, Christ within me
Christ behind me, Christ before me
Christ beside me, Christ to win me
Christ to comfort me and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger
Christ in hearts of all that love me
Christ in mouth of friend or stranger.
Christ behind me, Christ before me
Christ beside me, Christ to win me
Christ to comfort me and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger
Christ in hearts of all that love me
Christ in mouth of friend or stranger.
